I was wondering why it seems like there are suddenly so many foodies out there. Far more than there seemed to be a few years ago. In fact there seems to be more connoisseurs in general lately. Whether it’s film, music, electronics, or food, we seem less concerned with basic usability and more concerned with a deeper meaning. According to Daniel Pink that is because we’ve solved the everyday engineering problems of survival and are now focused on satiating some sort of deeper need. For example why buy the $2 toilet brush designed by Michael Graves at target over the $.50 one? Because we like the way it looks or who designed it.

So the mother of all games has launched. Opening to projected sales of $400 million comes the megaton, 1000 lbs gorilla game launch. Grand Theft Auto 4. The amount of hype for this game has been absolutely ridiculous, but did the game measure up to the hype?

Designers, please - quit it with your fuckin’ “green” items. I don’t want to wear your ugly scratchy hemp clothing, imho that’s just a waste of good weed. This happens to be a really cute picture however from Ads of the World. Like I’m always telling booboo, I’m sick of the tabloids telling me that I have to carry an eco-friendly bag to the grocery store instead of plastic. PUHLEEZE! That’s b/c only rich people go to the store and only get like, 4 organically grown items for like $75. I, on the other hand, do not leave Giant or Safeway without at least 15 plastic bags, not including the 4 cases of soda. How the hell am I supposed to tote all that good stuff in a stupid notebook sized “I am not a plastic bag”??? Another disgusting tidbit, that bag actually went for hundreds of dollars on ebay and became a sought-after item. Once again, an example of the emperor’s new clothes…

All the pieces matter -
Lester Freamon
Those prophetic words from season 1 of the Wire underscore the entire 5 season run of HBO’s critically acclaimed drama. Small insignificant events in season 1 will define character interactions all the way in season 5. Little side events in an episode will impact the show 10 episodes later. Everything matters, and absolutely nothing is spoon fed to the viewer.

Many of you who do not know me may not realize that I minored in English in college, specifically with a bent towards feminist studies. While I’ve tamed my feminazi side since the ’90s, I am often shocked and disgusted at how backwards, sexist and ignorant society can still be (helllooo Hilary is best qualified goddamnit, duh hickey that religion was created to keep women down and the history behind the DaVinci Code is not some made-up fairy tale, and why can’t women play golf at some of the best courses in the world? I mean WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!)

First thing’s first. I have not played the first Condemned. I tried the demo on the xbox 360 and quickly concluded that it was way too scary for me. However, I recently went to electronics boutique (a future review of the practices of gamestop corp. coming shortly) and traded in a few games in anticipation of the 500 lbs gorilla Grand Theft Auto 4. I received so much in trade in value that i had enough money to not only buy GTA4, but get another game as well. Since i loved Bioshock so much i figured i’d give another first person horror/atmosphere driven game a shot. Besides no game company is releasing games 2 weeks before or after GTA4, it’s that big of a game. Anyways, on with the review of Condemned 2.

Something evil is happening out there in the wilds of the internet. People are becoming complete and total douchebag assholes. Why? How? It all has to do with anonymity. Apparently knowing you’re anonymous allows you to say shit you would never in a million years say to another persons face. Not only are you anonymous, but you have an audience. It’s like people who become complete assholes while driving. They do it in part because there is a barrier separating them from the other person. They feel somehow absolved of what they’re doing. The internet takes this to incredible heights. It’s no longer a one on one thing to be an asshole to somebody. With an audience people somehow feel their particular brand of douchiness is somehow entertaining to the masses. It’s not. You just look like a complete fucking moron. You’re just going to have to take my word for it you basement dwelling trolls.

I fucking HATE MTV. Why the hell is it called MUSIC television when there are no music videos? Perhaps i’m showing my age but i remember a time when MTV actually showed videos. Not that bullshit on TRL either. They used to show NEW music videos, from unknown bands. MTV used to rail against the establishment, now they’ve become the establishment.

if one more magazine this spring tells me that i have to buy a pair of butt ugly gladiator sandals, i’m going to puke. while some may mistake stylish with trendy, that is just NOT the case, man. trendy has negative connotations if you ask me… sometimes i feel like designers are playing a joke on us to see if we’ll buy literally the ugliest shit out there and they can secretly laugh behind our backs and say “oy! they fell for it!”

note: when susan talks about movies she tends to use ALL CAPS A LOT
so mikey insisted that i only do fashion but fuck that. i’m a huge movie buff and i’m going to talk about some movies that i’ve seen recently… ergo it’s SUSAN’S MOVIE REVIEW TIME! for those of you that do not read my blog on xanga, i tend to have the taste of an 7-27 year old male when it comes to movies. my favorite genres are action, action/adventure, comedy, weird (indie stuff etc.), and then drama. i love movies where chicks kick ass, but mostly i love movies that get you to think, escape, or especially think about it even days/months/years afterward (case in point: matrix trilogy, gone baby gone, frailty, crank (that’s right i think about that shit homey!), donnie darko, etc.)
