Teaching the tasteless everywhere

MORE SPOILERS! IT’S SUSAN’S MOVIE REVIEW TIME!

note: when susan talks about movies she tends to use ALL CAPS A LOT

so mikey insisted that i only do fashion but fuck that. i’m a huge movie buff and i’m going to talk about some movies that i’ve seen recently… ergo it’s SUSAN’S MOVIE REVIEW TIME! for those of you that do not read my blog on xanga, i tend to have the taste of an 7-27 year old male when it comes to movies. my favorite genres are action, action/adventure, comedy, weird (indie stuff etc.), and then drama. i love movies where chicks kick ass, but mostly i love movies that get you to think, escape, or especially think about it even days/months/years afterward (case in point: matrix trilogy, gone baby gone, frailty, crank (that’s right i think about that shit homey!), donnie darko, etc.)

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 Review

Rainbow six vegas 2So my friends and I were huge fans of the original Rainbow Six: Vegas. A game that had possibly the best multiplayer available for the xbox 360. We would get online almost every night for some attack and defend or terrorist hunt. I say this because I want people to understand we are fans of the game. So with great anticipation we all went out to buy the new Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. Hit the jump for the full review.

Comcast: It’s Double-plus Bad

A quickie. Comcast is trying to make Orwell’s vision of 1984 come true. They would like to put a camera in your cable box that would recognize your face. If it see’s you in the room you’d get target advertising tailored specifically for you. If it see’s a child it would automatically pop up parental controls to screen out naughty behavior. Interesting…. using morality to tighten control. Seems to be a trend in America.

Don’t Believe the Hype

There’s a dangerous enemy masquerading as good taste. That’s hype. Manufactured to make you believe that what you like is actually good, but really it’s just you going along w/ the consensus. Often times a movie or videogame is really good but can’t hope to match the hype it generates. Other times the hype masks the flaws in that movie or game. There are 3 great examples recently i want to mention. The film ‘No Country for Old Men’ and the games ‘Assassins Creed’ and ‘Halo3′.

Review of Mastro’s Steakhouse

A few weeks ago a friend of mine said that he wanted to treat me to “the best steak you’ll ever have in LA, hands down.” He raved on and on about how since I was a “food snob,” I would appreciate Mastro’s Steakhouse. “They heat the plate in a 400 degree oven! The steak comes sizzling on the plate.” I could see tidbits of drool at the corners of his mouth as he told me about the lobster mashed potatoes and the bone-in filet.

Review of Macbook Pro

apple macbook proSo, I’ve been a windows PC guy for almost my entire life. I did use a macintosh briefly at school and my first job, but my home PC has always been windows based. About 2 years ago I got an apple macbook pro from work to use at home. Slowly all of my home PC use switched from the windows desktop that i own to the macbook i received from work.

Review of Michael Moore’s Sicko

Michael Moore SickoLet me begin this review with a confession. I absolutely love documentaries. I know i’m in the minority there, but I find them interesting, informative, and entertaining at the same time. To date my favorite Michael Moore film has been ‘Bowling for Columbine‘. I felt Farenheit 9/11 was interesting, but ultimately a bit on the sensationalist side. This is one of my major reservations with Michael Moore. He can create a documentary that’s just as thought provoking and interesting WITHOUT all of the stunts he pulls. For example, accosting members of the congress with enlistment papers for the war.

Social Networks review (facebook vs face to face)

Almost everybody has heard of social networking by now. The basic idea is that you list your friends and they list theirs. All together you make a giant network of first, second, and third tier friends. It’s supposed to let you keep in touch with each other, but lets be frank. All it lets you do is keep in touch with tertiary acquaintances while neglecting true face to face interaction with your real friends.

DVF, baby

quickie but goodie…

so i’m at a store one day with booboo (booboo = DH, which in other forums means “dear husband”) and i’m buying a diane von furstenberg dress, and he balks at the price of course. but this is how i explain it to him:

“booboo, Diane Von Furstenberg is like, a totally important designer (nod to clueless). Her dresses are classics that have been around and re-invented since the 1970s. This dress is an investment piece that will only get better with age. Plus, she’s a totally cool cat who hung out with Andy Warhol a long time ago.”
