Teaching the tasteless everywhere

Give a Man a Fish

fishingWe all know the saying “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” Our government is so out of touch that’s it’s come to the point where it’s resorting to the equivalent of giving to the people rather than educating them to do for themselves.

That tax rebate check was the dumbest idea i’ve ever seen. What the hell is $600 going to do for a person? Especially in our rampant consumer culture. I’ve seen people on food stamps buying dorito’s, gatoraid, and tv dinner for fucks sake. They should be buying fucking potato’s and carrots and shit. You know… get the most mileage out of your money. That’s the problem though. Everyone wants to live a particular lifestyle, and that lifestyle is only truly affordable to a few. Everyone else can experience the lifestyle by getting into debt. The rebate just came off as a fucking bribe or something.

Then there’s the whole idea of a gas tax holiday. Again a stupid fucking idea. That will save about… 30 cents a gallon maybe? However, it will leave a big budget deficit for new road repairs and construction. In essence we’ll take on a much larger problem for an extremely short term ‘fix’. I use quotes because it’s not a fix at all and probably won’t help anybody.  This goes into a larger issue.  So much of what occurs lately are band-aid quick fixes.  Much like the idea of giving a man a fish.  We opt for the easy out.  To give something away once is much easier than taking the time to truly educate.

This has nothing to do w/ democrats and republicans. In general, being terrible at their jobs is the only truly bipartisan thing our government can seem to accomplish.
